Choosing a Format for the Job

The right flyer format depends on how it will be distributed and read, not just what fits the budget. A6 and DL suit a quick handout or a leaflet slipped under a door or into a bag, read in seconds. A5 and A4 give more space for detail - a menu, a full event schedule, a fuller product description - suited to something a recipient is meant to read rather than glance at. Bi-fold and tri-fold formats add structure to a longer message, splitting information across panels rather than cramming it onto one flat sheet, useful for a brochure-style flyer without the cost of a full brochure print run.

Deluxe Printing produces all five formats in-house at our Al Qusais facility, on the same 170gsm Art Gloss stock throughout. So the choice comes down to format and quantity, not a difference in paper quality between sizes.

Print-Ready Artwork Requirements

Files submitted for printing need a 2mm bleed beyond the finished size, fonts converted to paths or curves, and all colors in CMYK or Grayscale - RGB, PMS, Pantone and spot colors are not supported and will be converted automatically. Bitmap images must be at least 300dpi and in CMYK, transparency effects must be flattened, and reversed type (light text on a dark background) should be no smaller than 7pt to stay legible after printing. Files should be supplied individually rather than as multi-page documents, since imposition (page layout for printing) is handled in-house.

Color Accuracy: What to Expect

Print color can vary slightly between print runs, and between what is seen on screen or in a proof and the finished printed piece; a variation of up to 10% of the CMYK color values is considered acceptable print quality. As stated in the CMYK printing policy, Pantone colors are not matched or printed as true spot color - they are automatically converted to the nearest CMYK equivalent. Reprints are not provided at Deluxe Printing’s expense for color variation within this accepted range.
