A Sticker That Has to Survive the Windshield
A windshield faces more direct sun exposure than almost any other surface on a car, plus wiper contact, washing, and in the UAE, sustained high heat for months at a time, conditions that fade or peel an ordinary sticker within weeks. A windshield sticker that looks correct on day one but lifts at the edges or fades within a season has failed at the one thing it needed to do. Interior vs Exterior Placement
An exterior sticker is applied directly to the outside of the glass and is the more common choice for bold branding or a design meant to be highly visible from a distance. An interior sticker is applied to the inside of the glass instead, which protects the print surface from direct weather contact and reduces the risk of peeling, but requires a specific material approach: clear vinyl with adhesive or static cling film, printed in reverse with a white ink backing layer. This ensures the colors read correctly and brightly when viewed from outside. Static cling film also has the advantage of being repositionable and removable without adhesive residue, making it useful for temporary or promotional stickers.
The RTA Approval Requirement
Placing a sticker on a car’s windshield in Dubai requires approval from the Roads and Transport Authority, and driving with an unapproved windshield sticker risks a fine. This is a genuine regulatory requirement specific to windshield placement, it does not apply in the same way to side or rear window decals, and is worth confirming before committing to a design rather than discovering it after installation.
